Bruce Alexander serves as Chairperson of the Firm's Construction Group. Mr. Alexander's practice is divided between serving as a Mediator and Arbitrator on construction related disputes and with the practice of law, including primarily construction litigation, lien law and document preparation. He is Florida Bar Board Certified in Construction Law, and has been certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Circuit mediator.
Mr. Alexander attended Fettes College in Edinburgh, Scotland, before attending Brown University, where he received a BA in economics and business administration. He received his law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where he served as executive editor for the Journal of International Law. Mr. Alexander was admitted to the Florida Bar, where he is licensed to practice in all state courts, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
Mr. Alexander is a member of the American Arbitration Association, and the American, Florida, and Palm Beach County Bar Associations. He has published numerous articles and lectured extensively before numerous organizations, including the Associated General Contractors of America, The Florida Bar, National Business Institute, Lorman Education Services and the Palm Beach County Bar Association. Mr. Alexander's lecture topics have included delay damages, construction contracts, contractor licensing, construction lien law, construction insurance coverage, drafting and interpretation of A.I.A. contract documents and ADR.
Mr. Alexander is the co-author of 'Effective Use of the Expert Witness,' published in Florida Construction Law and Practice, C.L.E., 4th Edition. He has served over 25 years on the Board of Directors of the Associated General Contractors of America, Florida East Coast Chapter, and was the recipient of its Outstanding Service Award, Affiliate Member, for the years 1987, 1988, 1990 and 1998. Rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell, Mr. Alexander has served as chairman of the Construction Law Committee for the Palm Beach County Bar Association for many terms. He served on the Florida Bar, Construction Law Committee as co-vice-chair from 2001 to 2004.
Mr. Alexander was also selected by the Florida Supreme Court to serve on the Florida Bar's Inaugural Committee for Construction Law Certification, and was appointed to serve as Chairperson of the Committee for the period 2007-2008. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at the St. Thomas University School of Law, where he lectures on the subject of Florida Construction Law.
Mr. Alexander was selected by his peers to be included in the 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 editions of The Best Lawyers in America in the specialty area of Construction Law, and is listed as a top tier Construction lawyer in Chambers USA Directory for 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009. Mr. Alexander has been recognized in the area of Construction Law in the International Who's Who of Business Lawyers, 2006 through 2012 editions, and the 2011 edition of the International Who's Who of Construction Lawyers. He has been named a Florida Super Lawyer in the area of Construction Law from 2007 through 2011, and has been included in South Florida's Best Lawyers and Florida Trend's Florida Legal Elite Magazines for 2010. Mr. Alexander received the Legal Aid Society Pro Bono Construction Law Award in 2009. Mr Alexander was the recipient of the 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award by the Florida Bar Construction Law Committee for his recognition state wide in the area of Construction Law.
